Hybrid runner ducks - taken up residence in the Lake Field
This April 2014 has seen some new residents on our lake and in the lake field. Pictured below is a group of around 7 hybrid runner ducks. A neighbour has had ducks for many years including some running ducks. These runner ducks have seemingly inter bred with the local population of both mallards and domestic muscovy ducks to produce this rather odd looking bunch. They are larger than the usual runner ducks and obviously multi coloured. They are reasonably tame but have taken to the camera well. This set of pictures were taken over a 24 hour period in a location where I was trying to catch some illusive pictures of an otter. They are rather comical from posing on one leg, staying out late and night, loads of preening and posing and copulating in full view of the lens!
